Abstract

In the context of COVID-19 pandemic the consumer demand for ecological tourism (ecotourism) has significantly increased. In the article the research of a current state and prospects of ecological tourism development in Russia from positions of “Ecology” and “Tourism and the Hospitality Industry” national projects realization, and also introducing the best accessible technologies in tourist destinations having both economic and social-ecological influence on development of a society and the nature, is carried out. Particular attention is paid to studying the prospects for the development of ecological tourism in specially protected natural areas of reserved nature. Scientific and practical approaches to interpretation of the "ecological tourism" definition are investigated; the basic resources necessary for development of ecotourism are defined. are shown, the most important of which are transport inaccessibility of a number of places, potentially destructive anthropogenic influence of ecotourism and its infrastructure on biosphere, insufficient awareness of potential consumers, high cost of ecological tours, unprofitability / low profitability of ecotourism objects, absence of system for collecting institutionalized environmental payments and monitoring their use. The results of the study have allowed the authors to formulate the basic principles and directions of ecotourism in Russia strategic development: a scientific approach to the development of ecotourism facilities (regarding the calculation procedure of maximum allowable recreational loads), the development of “green” tourist standards, the development of public-private partnerships in terms of infrastructure support for ecotourism, increasing investment attractiveness of areas, institutionalization of eco-economic payments, etc. It is emphasized that in addition to narrow sectoral objectives, the development of ecological tourism contributes to the achievement of national strategic objectives of environmental culture, environmental education, public health, patriotic education, preservation of natural and cultural-historical heritage for future generations.
