CULTURAL HERITAGE AS A FACTOR OF SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF THE REGION (ON THE EXAMPLE OF THE NOVGOROD REGION)

Abstract

In the modern world, the study of the impact of cultural heritage on the socio-economic development of the region certainly plays a significant role in the formation of cultural identity, preservation and transmission of values to future generations on the one hand, and in the development of science and tourism, creating new jobs and attracting investment in the region’s economy on the other hand. The purpose of the work is to reveal the concept of cultural heritage and study its impact on the socio-economic development of the region on the example of the Novgorod region. Objectives of the research consists in defining the concept of “cultural heritage”; presenting the uniqueness of Novgorod region heritage in the context of categorical typology in terms of its potential; identifying the impact of cultural heritage on the socio-economic development of the region; presenting the mutual relationship in the development of such economic areas as innovation and technology, business and cultural development and identifying their importance for increasing the socio-economic value of the territory. Methodology of the research is based on the system approach and uses general scientific methods of cognition: analysis, comparison, logical reasoning, fact gathering, synthesis, as well as structural approach. The paper develops a model of cultural heritage formation; researches the cultural heritage of Novgorod region in accordance with the presented model; systematizes the peculiarities of comprehensive influence of cultural heritage on the socio-economic development of the region; reveals a close relationship between the innovative development of the region, strengthening its technological positions and the preservation, restoration and study of cultural heritage on the example of the Novgorod region; describes the main factors and mechanisms through which the cultural heritage has a significant impact on the socio-economic development of the region.
